Description

TRUSTEE OPPORTUNITY WITH A FINANCE BACKGROUND

Edinburgh College Development Trust is an independent grant-making charity which helps Edinburgh College’s students, some of whom are from challenging backgrounds, in additional ways to the College to help improve the student experience.

The Development Trust’s main areas of interest are improving employability skills and life skills in students, broadening horizons to overcome poverty of ambition, and promoting positive mental wellbeing so that students can maximise their time at college.

Edinburgh College, which is one of the largest colleges in Scotland with around 20,000 students, has the City of Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian as its catchment areas.

This is a great time for a trustee who is interested in helping young people to get on in life to join the charity as the Development Trust is in the process of making a step change in its strategic mission, governance, and fundraising.

Following a skills audit, we are looking to recruit one trustee with a financial background, ideally with knowledge of charity accounting. Note that as the charity has a Company Secretary this is NOT a traditional treasurer role, but rather a trustee with specific oversight for the financial side of the charity.

It would also be beneficial if a trustee had some knowledge of/contacts within one or more of the college curriculum areas:

  • Creative Industries (art & design, broadcast media and photography, music & sound production, performing arts, computing)
  • Health, Wellbeing and Social Science (health, childcare, social care, sport & fitness, social science, special needs)
  • Hospitality, Tourism and Business (beauty & hair, business, finance and legal services, professional cookery and hospitality, events and retail, travel, tourism, modern languages, ESOL)

Applicants who are alumni of one of the predecessor colleges are also encouraged to apply, namely Leith Nautical College, Esk Valley College, Jewel & Esk Valley College, Jewel & Esk College, Stevenson College, Telford College, or Edinburgh College.
