Through local networks of mutual support, Neighbourhood Networks work with people in their neighbourhoods to deliver the support they require to live independently in their own homes, and to contribute to their communities.
Neighbourhood Networks, was set up in 2001 and supports people with Learning disabilities, physical disabilities, visual impairment, mental health issues and also young people in transitional groups. They have 28 networks across 9 local Authorities including North Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire, Glasgow, East Renfrewshire, West Dunbartonshire, Midlothian and East Lothian, North Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire and Falkirk. They also work in partnership with people, agencies and local authorities from other areas in Scotland to develop and create new networks which respond to local community needs. They currently have plans to grow in the next year in an existing area and in one new local authority. The charity has a user led Management Board made up of 16 people. 8 Trustees are volunteers from outside the organisation and 8 are Member Trustees (people who have experienced receiving a service from the organisation).
They have a buddy system in place where Trustees and member Trustees are paired together. This is to offer support to each other to make the most of the opportunity to serve on the Board and help Neighbourhood Networks to be the best it can be.
The experiences and skills along with the Trustees are invaluable in steering the organisation to make the best decisions about Strategy, Growth and Development whilst at the same time ensuring Neighbourhood Networks stay safe and secure.
