An estimated 788,000 people in Scotland care for a relative, friend or neighbour. 44,000 of those carers are under the age of 18. These figures are stark, but help is at hand.

Shared Care Scotland are a small but ambitious national charity with a strong reputation for collaboration and creativity. They engage with a wide range of stakeholders to improve the quality and availability of short breaks (respite care) across Scotland for the benefit of families, unpaid carers and people with support needs.

Short breaks allow carers to find a balance between their caring responsibilities and their own personal life which is essential for their wellbeing. The Fund, part of the National Carers Strategy, distributes around 2 million pounds to Third Sector organisations each year through three different strands – Creative Breaks, Better Breaks and the Time to Live Fund. Each strand helps to provide much needed respite care. The parameters of the grants encourage innovation in short breaks and encourage an exchange of learning amongst the care sector in Scotland.

The charity are looking for a Short Breaks Fund Manager (maternity cover) to oversee the management of the Short Breaks Fund to ensure that it is managed and delivered to the highest standards and delivers the best outcomes possible for unpaid carers and cared-for people.

You will be an experienced grant manager or grant fundraiser who has well-honed project management skills along with the ability to produce high-quality written work. The team at Shared Care Scotland is small but dynamic and they’re looking for a team player who can lead and support two members of staff whilst delivering against the demands of the funding cycle. If you’re a driven, enthusiastic and professional individual, the Short Breaks Fund needs you!
