Upmo pride themselves on doing things differently by offering individually tailored programmes for people with learning disabilities and autism. They are driven by the belief that every person should be given the opportunities they need to achieve their full potential and play an equal, inclusive and rewarding part in their communities.
Through a curriculum of creative workshops, educational activities and vocational programmes, students build their confidence and develop life skills. The charity also have a growing number of social enterprises to prepare them for work or to create job opportunities. The charity punch well above their weight, holding approximately 6,000 workshops per year across 6 sites. They have additional projects like social cafes and a gardening group.
Upmo are entering a new and exciting stage as they create the UPMO Campus by delivering a new Business Plan which has a purpose built performing arts campus as its centrepiece. The potential for this facility is extensive as is the opportunity for the charity to develop and grow.
The Founder, Josh Barton, has been running the organisation over the past decade, but is now moving to a more externally focussed role, not least to secure the funds for the project. The Board of Trustees are looking to appoint exceptional individual as the organisations first Chief Executive to deliver on their ambitions. The challenge is significant but the rewards of being involved with this ground-breaking charity will more than make up for this.
