Commitment: On average, 7 hours per month - Board meetings typically take place in the evenings (current Tuesdays) every two months. The chairperson would also meet with the Project Manager for around one hour per month.

Role: We currently have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Chairperson to join the Board of CREATE. We are looking for a gifted individual who has an interest in enriching the lives of young people in Paisley through partnering in our vision and values and offering their skills and experience to help the board lead the organisation in its growth and development. The Chairperson will have a strategic role to play in representing the vision and purpose of the organisation and will carry out the following responsibilities:

  1. Provide organisational leadership
  2. Ensure the board functions properly
  3. Support and supervise senior staff
  4. Represent the organisation


1. Provide organisational leadership

  • To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • To ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
  • To ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation
  • To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation
  • To review governance performance and skills
  • To plan for recruitment and renewal of the board
  • To ensure the financial stability of the organisation
  • To protect and manage the property of the charity and to ensure the proper investment of the charity's funds
  • To coordinate the committee to ensure trustees take responsibility and accountable for the delivery of particular aspects of the work of the board (financial control, fundraising, policy, risk management etc.)

2. Ensure the board functions properly

  • To chair and facilitate board meetings
  • To set agendas for board meetings, ensuring meetings are efficient and are focussed to address priority issues
  • To scrutinise board papers
  • To lead discussions
  • To provide guidance and direction to the board
  • To plan the annual cycle of board meetings
  • To give direction on policy-making
  • To monitor decisions taken at meetings are implemented

3. Support and supervise senior staff

  • To directly line manage the Project Manager
  • To lead the process of appraising the performance of the Project Manager
  • To liaise with the Project Manager to keep an overview of the organisation's affairs and to provide support as appropriate
  • To sit on appointment and disciplinary panels where necessary
  • To liaise with the Project Manager to develop the board of trustees

4. Represent the organisation

  • To communicate effectively the vision and purpose of the organisation
  • To advocate for and represent the organisation at external meetings and events
  • To be aware of current issues that might affect the organisation
