Neighbourhood Networks is a Registered Scottish Charity (SCO28984) and was established in Glasgow in 2001. It has delivered people-centred support services successfully to vulnerable people so they can retain their independence by living in their own homes and contribute to their communities. The organisation develops the capacities of individuals, groups and the community using a peer support model.
It provides its high-quality services across Scotland from West Dunbartonshire to East Lothian and has recently received excellent grades (6/6) from the Care Inspectorate, where it is a registered housing support provider. It works closely with local authorities to provide preventative approaches which can be applied to a wide range of people and communities. Given its success and solid financial position, it intends to develop new networks with partners in other areas of Scotland.
The Neighbourhood Networks Board comprises 16 trustees: 8 are member trustees who have received a service from the charity; 8 are volunteers from outside the organisation. There is a buddy system which pairs member/volunteer trustees to help and develop one another and ensure their tenure is productive and enjoyable.
Neighbourhood Networks is seeking a new Vice-Chair to take up the role during the summer. It is looking for someone with business acumen who understands and fits with the ethos of the organisation. The new Vice-Chair should have a good grasp of financial and charity governance issues, along with experience of leadership at a strategic level. The role will require someone with confidence, dedication and respect, but they will also need to have the courage to challenge the status quo and ask penetrating high-level questions when dealing with their fellow trustees and external agencies. This is an exciting time for Neighbourhood Networks and the Vice-Chair will be able to make a real difference to people’s lives.
