North East Sensory Services (NESS) delivers the first integrated joint sensory services in Scotland and is the NESS is the leading local provider of services for people living with serious sensory loss including people who are blind and deaf.
The original charity was started in 1879 and has grown and developed over the years but still retains its deep-rooted connection to the people in the North East. NESS provides a wide range of services to those with sensory impairment to be as independent as they can be and allow them to live as independently as they wish. Services include statutory services that are funded by Health and Social Care Partnerships and added value services that are funded by the charity.
With a history rooted in supporting the blind, in 2010 NESS was invited to take over the running of the deaf services in Aberdeen, and later successfully tendered for the joint sensory services in Aberdeen City. Their success in this cemented their identity as one of the only fully integrated joint sensory services in Scotland, delivering support to people who were deaf or hard of hearing as well as those who were blind or partially sighted. Since then, NESS has taken on services in Dundee and Angus, and now supports over 6,500 people with a sensory loss in Aberdeen, Moray, Dundee, Angus and Aberdeenshire.
Operating with a well-defined culture of sustainability, development and growth, NESS has received many accolades over the years. They currently hold Investors in People Gold status and have done so for 5 years, following on from 6 years at bronze status. In 2016, NESS was recognised as an excellent employer and was awarded the IIP International Award for “Excellence in the third sector”.
The Support Services Manager will be part of the management structure with responsibility for the line management of the Support Services team. The role is also responsible for ensuring the smooth and effective running of support services and Resource Centres. The Support Services Manager will facilitate the effective delivery of all support services work and support NESS is meeting overarching organisational goals.
To be considered for the role of Support Services Manager at NESS, you must have experience working in a senior administrative management post. This will include experience in both administration and people management. NESS require someone who is confident and skilled across general office administration and has strong IT skills, specifically in MS Office and with organisational databases. As a managerial post, you will have had responsibility for staff alongside other resources including admin and HR and be experienced working with external stakeholders. The Support Services Manager must be personable, persuasive and empathetic as well as having a robust attitude and is flexible and adaptable. You must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and if not qualified to a basic level in British Sign Language, then be prepared to undertake this (with NESS covering the cost).
