Since 1992, Hospices of Hope has worked across Romania and South-East Europe with a vision that all patients suffering from terminal or life-limiting illness can receive specialist hospice care and live and die with dignity and without pain. They are now a leading European hospice charity with an ambitious growth strategy.

On a mission to ensure free end-of-life hospice care is accessible whenever anyone needs it across South-East Europe, they have built partnerships across Romania and Serbia to deliver this alongside providing services directly through their partners in Moldova and Albania.

The leading hospice development charity in the region, they have cared for more than 50,000 people and delivered more than 20,000 training sessions in hospice care for thousands of healthcare professionals while raising over £20 million to support hospice care in the region.

Hospices of Hope are recognised as a Centre for Excellence by the World Health Organisation and operate teaching establishments that provide recognised courses for medical professionals. They have introduced new technologies to help patients and established networks of hospices and clinics across different countries. They provide advocacy and work with governments to assist in the development of national strategies for end-of-life care - work that is helping to achieve reforms in national health legislation and practice.

Despite this great work, many patients continue to miss out on proper end-of-life care and die in terrible pain and suffering. In Romania, a staggering 92% of people diagnosed with a terminal illness are still without the proper care and other countries in the region have no hospice services whatsoever.

Approaching their 30th anniversary in 2022, Hospices of Hope recognise they still have much work to do in support of the terminally ill in the region. To build more purpose-built hospices, train more healthcare professionals, help reform healthcare systems and provide care to some of the most disadvantaged children and adults in Europe they require more funding.
The Scottish Fundraising Executive will lead the implementation of the charity’s fundraising strategy in Scotland. They will steward existing donors and cultivate new donors in line with the strategy and growth of fundraised income across the country. They must be driven to help improve the quality of life for children and adults who need palliative and/or end of life care in the poorly resourced countries of South-East Europe.

Hospices of Hope require the new Scottish Fundraising Executive to be either an experienced Fundraising professional or from a target-driven environment and be able to evidence a track record of donor development, building strong relationships and new business experience (including achieving and exceeding targets). This role needs someone experienced and confident operating at a senior-level and can work with independence and autonomy. They should have a creative and professional approach with the strategic ability to react quickly and capitalise on opportunities. It is important that the Scottish Fundraising Executive is adaptable to different audiences, is a skilled influencer and strong in stakeholder management. They must be an excellent communicator and strong presenter.
