Description
Purpose of the role is to provide one to one / group support for young people who are experiencing a range of difficulties in their lives in the Moray area.
Tasks
- To undertake direct one to one mentoring with young people
- To facilitate and participate in group activities
- To work with young people, parents/carers and the local community in a consultative, respectful and inclusive manner
- To ensure that appropriate recording and evaluation material is maintained
- To take an active part in reviews and evaluations
- To work in partnership with relevant statutory departments and voluntary agencies.
Skills
- Understanding of good childcare practices with knowledge of safeguarding legislation
- Knowledge of the factors/ issues that affect young people and their families
- Some direct experience in working with young people in a variety of settings
- Ability to relate to young people and to be able to see things from a young person’s point of view while respecting the views and beliefs of others
- Good listening, oral, written and communication skills
- Good coping skills and to be able to deal with the emotional demands of the role
- Ability to record effectively

Volunteering times
- Days, evenings or weekends
- Each visit lasts for 2 hours
- Visits vary from weekly, fortnightly or monthly
- Minimum commitment of 6 months required

- Role specific training
- Expenses – all out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed
- Supervision and support from your volunteer coordinator
- Attend recognition events and volunteer socials throughout the year
Additional Information
Volunteers MUST be one year clean of any problematic drug/ alcohol misuse.
For all roles involving regulated work with children and/or protected adults, Aberlour will require the applicant to submit a PVG Scheme Record or a PVG Scheme Record Update application. This opportunity is subject to the completion of satisfactory references and successful registration on the PVG Scheme.
